Newcastle United have submitted an enquiry for Denzel Dumfries, with Eddie Howe keen on the Dutchman to join his side.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Newcastle United have asked about Denzel Dumfries ahead of the summer window. Eddie Howe wants the 27-year-old full-back to join his squad and provide competition plus a different option in the position.

Inter Milan will look to sell a few of their valued assets in the summer. The Italian side are currently muddled in financial issues and must raise a reported €100 million to balance their act. Recent reports suggest they remained uninterested in selling Lautaro Martinez, so a few others could exit the club.

Denzel Dumfries could be a part of that list, with Inter Milan hoping to get a sizeable return for the 27-year-old full-back. There have been clubs from the Premier League interested in the Dutchman. But none have shown serious intention until now.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United have been reportedly interested in the 27-year-old full-back. Now Newcastle United look to take the lead in the chase. Eddie Howe wants to add a solid presence right back who could provide competition and a different option in the position.

The Magpies have relied heavily on Kieran Trippier this season. With Newcastle United likely to play Champions League football next season, it is essential to have depth in every position. The need for a new right-back has been ongoing since January, but Howe went without signing anyone.

They are among the clubs keen on Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid. But Howe could seek a more established option in the upcoming window. Hence the reported pursuit of Dumfries, but much will depend on what Inter Milan wants in return.

During January, price tags of over €50 million were reportedly quoted in the media. However, Gazzetta claimed, Inter could consider €30 million for the 27-year-old full-back. That seems reasonable for an international-level right back.

Dumfries might see the idea of playing in England and could swap. With Newcastle United likely to feature in the Champions League, he could consider their project and look to move. However, other clubs could also look to sign him, leaving him with plenty of options to consider.

For now, Newcastle are looking to take the lead in this chase and bring the 27-year-old full-back to St. James’ Park. He could prove a good signing for the Magpies, as they seek experienced professionals for important positions.
