Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly ready to hand a war chest worth £100 million to Pep Guardiola for moves in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by The Sun, Manchester City will be happy to hand Pep Guardiola up to £100 million to complete signings in the winter transfer window. The Premier League champions have identified Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala as their top targets, although January moves for either player will unlikely see the light of day.
Manchester City had a quiet summer window
Manchester City did not sign many players in the summer transfer window, with Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan the only players to arrive at the Etihad. Among these, they had already agreed to sign the former several months ago, while Gundogan’s return came out of nowhere after Barcelona decided to part ways with him.
So, the Premier League champions were not interested in completing many transfers this past summer, with Pep Guardiola happy with his squad. However, that might change when the transfer window reopens in January, with Manchester City ready to hand the former Barcelona manager a war chest worth £100 million.
The Citizens have identified some world-class players as top targets for the winter transfer window. The report has mentioned that Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala are on City’s radar, although neither player will cost £100 million or lower, especially in the January transfer window.
Wirtz and Musiala to the Etihad?
Manchester City’s interest in Florian Wirtz is understandable. With Kevin De Bruyne approaching the twilight of his glittering career, Manchester City should plan for life after the veteran Belgian playmaker, with the Bayer Leverkusen talisman emerging as a viable target for the English giants.
As for Jamal Musiala, the versatile German international can reprise multiple roles in the final third. So, he can be the long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva, who has been seeking a new adventure away from Manchester City for several years without failing to seal a move away from the Etihad.
Recent reports have claimed that the 21-year-old Bayern Munich utility man views Manchester City as an attractive destination. However, the Bundesliga giants will unlikely entertain any winter offers for the youngster, while Wirtz should not be available either. So, City might have to wait until next summer to land the German duo.
