La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly in a five-way battle to sign 31-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey from Arsenal in 2025.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Thomas Partey is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Five clubs are engaging in a transfer battle to sign the Arsenal midfield mainstay in a Bosman move in the 2025 summer transfer window. Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Al-Ahli, and Al-Hilal are also keen on securing his services next year.
Thomas Partey and his Arsenal journey so far
Thomas Partey has been a reliable performer for Arsenal since arriving from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth €50 million in October 2020. The move came out of nowhere, with the North London club triggering his release clause to sign him from the Spanish club four years ago.
While the 31-year-old has struggled with fitness issues throughout his stint with Arsenal, he has made his mark and stamped his authority whenever he has been on the pitch. Partey has turned out 118 times thus far for the Premier League outfit while chipping in with six goals and four assists.
However, the Ghanaian midfielder faces an uncertain future at the Emirates after entering the final 12 months of his contract with Arsenal. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey’s situation has not gone unnoticed, with five clubs, including Barcelona, keen on signing him in a Bosman move if he leaves Arsenal as a free agent.
Barcelona interested
Thomas Partey has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. The Catalan giants have been desperately scouring the market for a long-term successor to Sergio Busquets but have failed to fill his void in the last 12 months. Oriol Romeu has come and gone from Barcelona, leaving the club back to square one.
So, Partey has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, although the Blaugrana will not be alone in the race to secure his services in a Bosman move in the 2025 summer transfer window. Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Al-Ahli, and Al-Hilal are also keen on signing the Arsenal midfield mainstay next year.
The report has added that the Bianconeri could soon offer him a three-year contract, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Al-Ahli, and Al-Hilal less advanced than the Serie A giants. So, it will be interesting to see if Thomas Partey’s spell with the North London club ends in 2025 or if Arsenal can tie him to a new contract.
