Liverpool have entered the race for the signature of Real Madrid and Manchester City target Jeremie Frimpong.
According to a report from Fichajes, Jeremier Firmpong’s impressive performances for Bayer Leverkusen have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. While the player is busy competing at the Euro, multiple top clubs are gearing up for a transfer battle. Manchester City and Real Madrid already hold interest in the full-back and Liverpool have also entered the race.
Frimpong has taken his game to another level under Xabi Alonso at the German club. He played a big part in their exceptional 2023/24 campaign, where they ended Bayern Munich’s dominance in Germany. In his 47 outings, the Dutch defender contributed towards 26 goals (14 goals, 12 assists).
Real Madrid want Frimpong
While the Spanish international is at the peak of his power, he is 32 and Los Blancos are looking to plan ahead. The Dutch international’s attacking abilities along with the strong defensive base make him an ideal candidate for the team in white.
Liverpool and City are also in the mix
But, they are not the only ones keen on his signature, there is interest in him from two English clubs. Manchester City are one of them and they are considering re-signing Frimpong ahead of next season. He was a part of their youth ranks back in the day and they are now willing to offer him a first-team role under Pep Guardiola.
They are impressed having seen him perform at the top level and are keen on bringing in a player who already knows the philosophy of the club. While City are keen on their former youth star, Liverpool have just entered the race for his signature.
The Reds are looking to add more depth to the right-back position and allow Arne Slot to have the freedom to use Trent Alexander-Arnold in the centre of the park. Given the kind of form Frimpong has been in, he could be an exceptional signing for the Merseyside club but they will have to battle the likes of City and Madrid to have him in their squad.
