Manchester City in contact with Jeremie Frimpong

Manchester City have entered the race for the services of Manchester United and Arsenal target Jeremie Frimpong.

According to a report from HITC, Jeremie Frimpong has attracted a lot of attention from England following a sensational season with Bayer Leverkusen. He has been on the wishlist of Manchester United and Arsenal for a while now. But, there is a big development as Manchester City are looking to re-sign the wing-back in the summer and have held talks to sign him.

Frimpong was a part of the Manchester City youth ranks for close to ten years. Unfortunately, things did not work out for him at the club, and he parted ways to join Celtic in 2019. After an impressive 18-month spell at the Scottish club, Bayer Leverkusen acquired his services in the winter of 2021.

The Dutch wing-back has gone from strength to strength since making the move to Germany. He has been in exceptional form this term, the 23-year-old has featured in 44 matches and has contributed towards 26 goals (14 goals, 12 assists).

He has played a big part in Leverkusen’s dominance in the 2023/24, where they remain unbeaten and have already clinch the Bundesliga title. Frimpong’s exceptional work on the right flank has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Manchester United and Arsenal’s interest in Frimpong

His pace, ability on the ball and exceptional attacking threat from the right are major reason why Manchester United and Arsenal are both keen on his signature. The Red Devils want to sign an attacking right to bolster their back line. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka likely to leave, Frimpong has emerged as a viable target. Manchester United even wanted to sign him back in 2023.

As far as Arsenal are concerned, the Gunners are also looking for an attacking right-sided full-back. Mikel Arteta wants someone who can help further bolster their right flank and complement Bukayo Saka in the attacking half. While they do have quality right-back options in Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu, they need someone who can be an attacking threat going forward. So, the Gunners believe Frimpong could be an ideal fit.

Manchester City want to re-sign Frimpong

The Bayer Leverkusen star has a release clause worth just £34 million, which is not a problem for his suitors. But, with Manchester City entering the race, things have got a bit difficult for them. Pep Guardiola’s team are looking to bring their former youth player back to the club.

Manchester City have already opened discussions with the representatives of the player about a return to Etihad Stadium as a first-team player. City have enquired about the availability of the player as they look to know about the overall cost of bringing him back.

The Premier League champions are looking at the Dutchman as long-term successor for Kyle Walker and are willing to push hard. Frimpong has talked about a potential return to Manchester City in the past. He could be keen on a move back to the club where started.
