Official: Tosin Adarabioyo set to complete Chelsea move

Tosin Adarabioyo has agreed to a four-year contract with Chelsea and will complete his Bosman move to Stamford Bridge on July 1.

In an official statement on Chelsea FC’s website, the Blues have announced the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo. The 26-year-old will formally complete a Bosman move to Stamford Bridge on July 1 after he leaves Fulham as a free agent. He will sign a four-year contract with Chelsea after his deal with the Cottagers expires.

Adarabioyo expressed his delight at his upcoming Chelsea move, saying, “Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles away from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there. I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go.”

Tosin Adarabioyo rose in prominence during his spell with Fulham, joining the West London club from Manchester City in October 2020. He went from strength to strength at Craven Cottage in the last four years, establishing himself as a regular at the heart of the defence.

The 26-year-old has turned out 132 times for Fulham, chipping in with five goals and two assists. However, Adarabioyo has played his final game for the West London club, as he will not sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring on June 30. And his next destination is Chelsea.

Chelsea’s interest in Tosin Adarabioyo was understandable. Thiago Silva is leaving the West London club as a free agent on July 1, and his exit will leave a gaping hole in the defensive department at Stamford Bridge. In addition, Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile face an uncertain future at Chelsea.

So, Chelsea needed to sign at least one centre-back, with Adarabioyo becoming the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window. In addition, the 26-year-old kicks things off for Enzo Maresca as the newly-appointed manager looks to rebuild Chelsea in the 2024/25 season.

Other high-profile clubs, including Newcastle United, were also keen on securing Tosin Adarabioyo’s services. However, he has snubbed them to join Chelsea by signing a four-year contract with the West London club as he prepares to embark on a new adventure.
