Liverpool hopeful of securing Johan Bakayoko deal for “a decent fee”

Liverpool are keen on bringing Johan Bakayoko in the summer after a long time keeping tabs on the PSV Eindhoven winger.

Liverpool could pursue a deal for Johan Bakayoko during the summer window and they could sign in for a “decent fee”, according to Football Insider. The Merseysiders have long monitored the Belgian winger and could finally decide to drop a bid after a title-winning campaign in the Eredivisie.

Liverpool eyeing Johan Bakayoko swoop

Liverpool have had links to Johan Bakayoko before, but last summer it appeared that Brentford or Tottenham might have stolen a march for the Belgian winger. Nothing came of interest from those London sides as the winger continued his journey with PSV Eindhoven to suitable measures, helping them decisively win the Eredivisie title.

Bakayoko ended the season with 14 goals and as many assists in all competitions, with 12 goals and 9 assists coming in the league. Not only was the decision to stay put at PSV the right one, but it has also helped him gain valuable experience in the Champions League and mature in his game ahead of a big move, possibly to Liverpool.

With Arne Slot set to take the reins from Jurgen Klopp, there’s a chance he might have ideas to bring in a few players from the Eredivisie. Bakayoko’s performances last season might have brought him into his thoughts a lot, which could lead to a summer transfer. PSV are likely to sell for a modest price, with previous reports stating the Reds were angling for a €25 million move for the winger

While Liverpool have ideas to bring a new young winger to freshen up the attack and have more options, the report states Bakayoko might come in to replace Mohamed Salah. The idea may seem to make sense to replace the Egyptian, although the Reds are likely to reinforce their attack irrespective of their talisman leaving, with Arne Slot reportedly open to the idea of the Belgian.

Bakayoko’s arrival contingent on Salah’s departure?

It’s quite unlikely, as Liverpool are not looking at Bakayoko as a direct replacement for the Egyptian. In fact, strong reports are suggesting Saudi Arabian sides will likely cool their interest in Salah ahead of the summer and immediately come in for him next summer when they can leverage some big stars ahead of their renewal of the international TV deal.

Hence, it’s likely that Liverpool will sign Bakayoko if they want, regardless of Salah’s departure. Arne Slot will feel the need to freshen up his attacking setup and might view the Belgian winger as a solid addition to his squad.
