The Magpies have been searching for a new stopper to compete with Nick Pope, with the Georgian understandably a big target.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has been a revelation in the few seasons he has played with Valencia, and the Spanish side is likely to make a huge profit from his sale. Signed for a paltry sum from the Georgian league, the keeper has emerged as one of the best keepers in Spain over the last two seasons. He now wants a move to the Premier League, where a host of clubs are keen on his signature.
Valencia wants at least £30 million from his sale, as they are aware of the English market and the need for a new keeper from many sides. Chelsea and Newcastle United are keen, while others like Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on the Georgian’s situation.
However, the keeper now wants a new challenge in his career and wants to join one of the big Premier League sides. The Magpies do appear as front runners for his signature, with the club also keeping close tabs on Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
Newcastle United sound out Mamardashvili’s move
The £30 million-rated La Liga star would be a welcome addition to Newcastle United, who might be ready to spend a decent fee on a new keeper. They are not particularly looking to replace Nick Pope; instead are keen to bring someone to compete with the England international.
The Magpies are interested in Mamardashvili, but they are also very keen on Ramsdale. However, they would have to strengthen one of their rivals in the process of purchasing the England international, something they are not keen to do during the summer.
Hence, it would make total sense to sign someone like Mamardashvili, who is young and fits in with the ideas that Newcastle United have with regard to their keeper requirement.
