Aston Villa offer €15 million to sign Marcos Acuna

Unai Emery is pushing Aston Villa to sign Marcos Acuna, with the West Midlands club offering €15 million to sign the Sevilla full-back.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcos Acuna is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans were also keen on signing the Argentine international last summer. And the Villans have submitted a bid worth €15 million to secure the services of the 32-year-old, who won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

How has Marcos Acuna fared at Sevilla?

Marcos Acuna has been among the best full-backs in La Liga since joining Sevilla from Sporting CP in September 2020. The Argentine international spent his formative years in his homeland, graduating from the Ferro Carril Oeste youth division. He rose in prominence during his stint with Racing Club before joining Sporting CP in July 2017.

The 32-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Sevilla, chipping in with six goals and 16 assists. Acuna was also a part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Meanwhile, the veteran full-back’s future at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium is uncertain, as he will enter the final year of his contract with Sevilla on July 1.

Acuna will unlikely have a shortage of suitors in the summer transfer window, with Premier League clubs, in particular, interested in signing him. The World Cup winner is a long-term target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands club submitting a bid to secure his services.

Premier League move on the cards?

Aston Villa considered signing Marcos Acuna last summer before a move failed to materialise. The Villans remain keen on signing the 32-year-old, with Unai Emery keen on reuniting with him at Villa Park. The continued interest in the Sevilla full-back is understandable amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Alex Moreno and Lucas Digne.

So, it is hardly surprising that the Villans are keen on Acuna, with the West Midlands club offering €15 million to Sevilla to secure his services. The bid signals Aston Villa’s intention to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window.

Other left-backs, including Bradley Locko, are also on Aston Villa’s radar. However, with Emery keen on reuniting with Acuna, we may see the 32-year-old World Cup winner move to Villa Park this summer.
