Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Spanish left-back Fran Garcia from Real Madrid this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fran Garcia is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants are scouring the market for a left-back in case they do not complete a permanent move for Ian Maatsen. The 24-year-old Real Madrid academy graduate has thus emerged as a target for the Black and Yellows.
Fran Garcia and an unhappy Real Madrid return
Fran Garcia has struggled to stamp his authority since rejoining Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano last summer. The Spaniard was a popular signing after his impact in his three years at Estadio de Vallecas. However, he has played second-fiddle to Ferland Mendy throughout the 2023/24 season.
The 24-year-old, who graduated from Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica division, has managed less than 1,500 minutes of game time across 28 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two assists. So, it is hardly surprising that Garcia’s long-term future at Real Madrid is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window.
Widespread reports have claimed that Alphonso Davies is closing in on joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. In addition, Ferland Mendy might not depart from the Santiago Bernabeu, with Fichajes corroborating that notion. So, Garcia finds himself in a spot of bother. And Borussia Dortmund will look to provide the Spanish full-back an escape route from Real Madrid.
Bundesliga move on the horizon?
Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Fran Garcia is understandable. The Bundesliga giants want to complete a permanent move for Ian Maatsen in the summer transfer window after the positive impact of the Dutchman since arriving on loan from Chelsea. Maatsen also wants the same move after his solid spell in the second half of the 2023/24 season thus far.
However, it is unclear if the Black and Yellows are ready to meet Chelsea’s asking price for Maatsen. So, it behoves the Bundesliga giants to keep their options open, bringing Garcia into the picture.
With the 24-year-old Real Madrid academy graduate in a spot of bother at the Bernabeu, a summer departure is the ideal solution for him. It will be interesting to see if the Spaniard leaves Real Madrid and joins Borussia Dortmund in the coming weeks.
