Barcelona in advanced talks to sign Guido Rodriguez

La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly on the verge of completing a Bosman move for 30-year-old Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

According to a report by Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, Guido Rodriguez is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are reportedly scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And they are in advanced talks to land the 30-year-old Real Betis midfielder.

Guido Rodriguez and his impact at Real Betis

Guido Rodriguez has been one of the best midfielders in La Liga since joining Real Betis from Club America in July 2020. The Argentine international had gone under the radar before arriving in Europe. However, he has gone from strength to strength in the last four years at the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Rodriguez was also a part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, although he barely featured for Argentina. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old has turned out 169 times thus far for Real Betis, chipping in with nine goals and four assists. However, the experienced midfielder will leave the Andalusian club as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

The 2022 World Cup winner has entered the final three months of his contract and will not sign a new deal with Real Betis anytime soon. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. And Barcelona might be his next destination in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona move on the cards?

The reigning La Liga champions hold a long-standing interest in Guido Rodriguez. Barcelona previously considered securing the player’s services, but a move failed to materialise. However, that will likely change in the upcoming summer transfer window, considering the experienced midfielder’s impending free-agent status.

Rodriguez’s upcoming free-agent status also makes him an appealing target for Barcelona. In addition, his experience in La Liga means the player will unlikely take long to settle down at the club. So, he should be the long-sought successor to Sergio Busquets, with Oriol Romeu failing to make his mark this season.

With talks between Barcelona and Rodriguez’s entourage advancing, he should join Barcelona on a Bosman move in the coming months. But it will be interesting to see if another club can beat the Blaugrana to his signature.
