Chelsea are reportedly considering a summer move for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, a target for Liverpool.

A report from Give Me Sport has claimed that Chelsea could sound out a move for Teun Koopmeiners. The West London club will face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for the 26-year-old Atalanta midfielder.

The Dutchman has had an impressive season so far, and he has 13 and five assists in all competitions. He could prove to be a quality acquisition, and it remains to be seen whether the Blues can get the deal done.

Chelsea need more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Koopmeiners has emerged as a viable target. He will add goals and creativity to the side. Chelsea are currently missing a goalscoring presence in the middle of the park, and they could certainly use the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, the player has been linked with a move to Liverpool as well. The Premier League giants are thought to be keeping tabs on the Dutch central midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to make a move for him.

Chelsea have had a disappointing season by their standards, and they will look to bounce back strongly at the end of the campaign. The Blues need to improve their squad in order to do well. Improving the attacking unit should be one of their priorities. They need to sign a reliable goalscorer who can lead the line for them and score goals consistently. In addition, signing a goalscoring midfielder could prove to be a wise decision.

Liverpool will be a more attractive destination

Koopmeiners will want to join a club capable of winning major trophies and therefore a move to Liverpool might be more attractive for him. While Chelsea are a big club as well, they are currently going through a period of rebuilding and are unlikely to be able to push for major trophies right away.

In addition, they will not be able to provide the midfielder with Champions League football next season either. The Dutch midfielder is likely to cost a substantial amount of money during the summer transfer window, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are prepared to pay up.
