Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who is also on the radar of Arsenal.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool have ramped up their pursuit of Atalanta playmaker Teun Koopmeiners with an enquiry, but could face stiff competition from fellow Premier League title rivals Arsenal.

With Jurgen Klopp set to leave at the end of the season, it is unclear what shape Liverpool’s rebuild will take over the summer, though it is likely that there will be makeovers in some areas.

Having lost Jordan Henderson and Fabinho last summer, the Reds added four new players to their ranks to replace them, namely Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis MacAllister, and Ryan Gravenberch.

However, there is still a feeling they could use one more addition in the middle of the park, with Thiago set to leave the Premier League this summer and both Szoboszlai and Stefan Bajcetic struggling with muscle injuries.

One player that Liverpool have been strongly linked with is Teun Koopmeiners. The 26-year-old has cemented himself as one of the most exciting players in his position since joining La Dea from AZ Alkmaar in 2021. He has already hit double figures in Serie A by scoring 10 goals this term, whilst scoring twice in Coppa Italia.

After successfully fending off Napoli’s advances for Koopmeiners last summer, Atalanta have grown increasingly resigned to losing their prized possession at the end of the season after he flirted with the prospect of a Premier League move in a recent interview.

But according to the above report, the Orobici currently value their prized asset at over €85 million. And in any case, they wouldn’t accept an offer below €75 million.

Arsenal in the mix for Teun Koopmeiners

The Reds face incoming competition from Arsenal in the race to sign the Atalanta star. The Gunners are likely to invest heavily in a marquee midfielder.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein recently stated that it could be a number six or number eight based on possible outgoings, given that the contracts of Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny will have expired while there are also doubts over Thomas Partey’s long-term future.

A raft of highly-profile midfielders have already been linked with a switch to the Emirates, but now it appears the Gunners are ready to join the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus in the race to sign Koopmeiners.

The 26-year-old would be a superb signing for both positions. The Dutchman started off as a defensive midfielder at AZ before moving into a central attacking/playmaker role with Atalanta.
