Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has been linked with a move away from Italy in the summer, with Liverpool and Newcastle keen.

Teun Koopmeiners has now revealed that he wants to leave Serie A club Atalanta, and the development will come as a major boost for Liverpool and Newcastle United.

“I told Atalanta that I want to move next summer,” Koopmeiners said via 90min. “But there has to be something really interesting for me to leave Bergamo. My fiancee and I are having a lot of fun in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I would even put up with the rain.”

“I hope that options arise which I can think about, and then I hope Atalanta get a nice sum for me because I’ve had a wonderful time in Bergamo. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t receive news of probable interest from Juventus and a Premier League club. Of course I read them, or they are forwarded to me.”

Koopmeiners has 12 goals and four assists in all competitions, and he will add some much-needed goals to the Liverpool midfield. The 25-year-old is a key target as the Reds look for a replacement for Thiago Alcantara, who will be a free agent in the summer.

Liverpool will have to replace him adequately, and it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal for the Dutchman done. The opportunity to join Liverpool will be an attractive proposition for the player, and the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo could help the Reds convince the player as well.

Newcastle United also want Teun Koopmeiners

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are keen on the player as well. The Magpies are already lacking in quality and depth in the middle of the park. They need someone who can score goals and create goalscoring opportunities consistently. The 25-year-old would be the ideal fit alongside Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

It remains to be seen where the Dutch international ends up. He will want to join a big club capable of winning major trophies. So, the opportunity to join Liverpool will probably be a more tempting proposition for him.

It will be interesting to see which of the two English clubs decide to test Atalanta’s resolve with an offer in the summer. Both clubs have the financial muscle to get the deal done, and the 25-year-old could be a key player for them in the coming seasons.

Koopmeiners has the physicality and technical ability to thrive in the Premier League, and he is at the peak of his powers right now. He could make an immediate impact and hit the ground running in English football.
