Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the front-runners to sign Teun Koopmeiners from Serie A club Atalanta.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Teun Koopmeiners is gaining popularity in the market. Several high-profile clubs in Italy and England are interested in signing the Dutch midfield general, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur “in the front row” to land him. Meanwhile, Serie A club Atalanta will demand around €70 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
The Teun Koopmeiners Tale
Teun Koopmeiners has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world since joining Atalanta from AZ Alkmaar in August 2021. A native of Castricum, he spent his formative years in the Netherlands before graduating from the AZ Alkmaar youth division over half a dozen years ago.
The 25-year-old has come leaps and bounds in the last 30 months at Atalanta, having been a mainstay at the back for La Dea. The Dutch midfielder is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 season thus far, contributing to 13 goals in 28 outings thus far, finding the back of the net nine times while providing four assists.
Meanwhile, the Dutchman’s progress at the Serie A club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are interested in Koopmeiners, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur “in the front row” to land him. Liverpool’s interest in Teun Koopmeiners is understandable. The Reds heavily bolstered their midfield unit in the summer transfer window but did not sign enough holding midfielders to replace the outgoing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. While Wataru Endo has been decent, Liverpool can do with a better option, bringing the Atalanta midfielder into the picture.
