Barcelona might lose the race to sign 17-year-old Accra Lions wonderkid David Oduro, who wants to join the Catalan club.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, David Oduro is the subject of interest from Barcelona. However, the reigning La Liga champions face a losing battle for the 17-year-old’s signature as they are yet to submit an offer to sign him. Meanwhile, the Accra Lions wonderkid is prioritising joining the Catalan outfit in the summer transfer window.

Who is David Oduro?

David Oduro is the latest African sensation to rise in prominence and appear on the radar of well-known outfits in Europe. The continent is producing highly-rated prodigies in droves, with recent reports linking Ibrahim Diarra and Amara Diouf, among others, with Barcelona and many different bigwigs.

Oduro also features on Barcelona’s radar, with the Blaugrana handing him a trial last month. He was also a trialist at Chelsea, although a move has not materialised to either club yet. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old African wonderkid is primarily a left-back who can also reprise a more advanced role.

The highly-rated full-back has already turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Accra Lions despite being 17, chipping in with one goal and six assists. However, a European adventure beckons in the summer transfer window as Oduro will turn 18 in June, making him eligible for a move to the continent.

Will Barcelona sign Oduro?

Several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, are vying for the youngster’s signature. However, the reigning La Liga champions face a losing battle for David Oduro, as they are yet to submit an offer for the 17-year-old African wonderkid. Instead, he has proposals from other well-known outfits.

The report by SPORT has mentioned Anderlecht and Bayer Leverkusen as the other interested parties. So, Barcelona might be in a losing battle to secure Oduro’s services unless they can produce the required funds. However, the Ghanaian whizkid is prioritising joining Barcelona after leaving Accra Lions.

For now, Accra Lions and Oduro are talking to several clubs, with offers already on his table. It will be interesting to see if the 17-year-old prodigy arrives at FC Barcelona or if one of the other clubs prises him away.
