Aston Villa considering Marc Cucurella swoop

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Spanish wide man Marc Cucurella from Chelsea this summer.

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Aston Villa plotting a summer move for Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, who has been quite underwhelming since joining the West London club.

Chelsea paid £65 million to sign the Spaniard from Brighton & Hove Albion. But the move has not worked out. Cucurella has been quite underwhelming for his new club, and Chelsea need to bring in an upgrade.

Recent reports have linked Chelsea with several left-backs, including Rayan Ait-Nouri. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are prepared to sanction Cucurella’s departure at the end of the season and cut their losses on the Spanish defender.

Aston Villa need defensive reinforcements at the end of the season and Cucurella could prove to be a useful acquisition for them if he can regain his form and confidence. Playing under a tactically astute manager like Unai Emery could help him get back to his best once again. The Spanish defender excelled at Brighton and he will be disappointed with his performances at Chelsea so far.

Perhaps a fresh start would be ideal for the player, and a move to Aston Villa could be an interesting opportunity.

Aston Villa need quality defenders

The West Midlands club are currently pushing for UEFA Champions League qualification, and they will need quality players to do well in the premier European tournament. They will need to bring in the right reinforcements during the summer transfer window, and Cucurella is certainly a quality player if he can get back to his best.

Chelsea will be fully aware of the fact that they will not be able to recoup the £65 million they paid for the Spanish defender. Therefore, they should look to sell him for a reasonable price in the summer. It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa can secure an agreement with the Blues in the coming weeks.

Chelsea will need to improve their squad during the summer transfer window as well. The Blues have had a disappointing campaign, and they will have to plug the gaps in their squad. They need to raise funds to improve their squad and selling under performers like Cucurella would be a wise decision.

Aston Villa are currently competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League, and they will be hoping to go all the way in the tournament. The Villans have already made it to the semi-finals. Villa Park could be an attractive destination for the Spanish defender in the summer, and it will be interesting to see if all parties can secure an agreement soon.
