Manchester United could end up signing the 28-year-old England international Ivan Toney ahead of next season.
According to a report by The Mirror, Manchester United are now dark horses in the race to acquire the services of Ivan Toney. The 28-year-old Brentford star wants to move to a bigger club in the summer and with Arsenal and Chelsea taking a back seat, the Red Devils could make the most of the situation.
Toney to leave Brentford
Toney made his return to football in January after his ban for illegal betting ended. Since returning to action, he has featured in 13 matches for Brentford and has contributed towards five goals. His performances have reignited the interest of English giants in his services.
They wanted to sign him in the summer but the ban became a major hurdle. With the 28-year-old entering his final 12 months of the contract, a move ahead of next season becomes the most likely outcome. He could be available for a cut-price fee of around £40 to £50 million.
Arsenal and Chelsea are two clubs that have been linked with the England international for a long while now. Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new number nine as he is not happy with the output of his strikers while the Blues have struggled to score goals at times and they want a proven goal scorer in their ranks.
Manchester United to push for Toney
While both clubs are keen on signing a new forward, Toney is no longer their priority. The Gunners are looking to push for Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko while Chelsea have their eyes on other targets.
With the duo taking a back seat, Manchester United have the perfect opportunity to sign the 28-year-old. The Red Devils want to reinforce their attack. They want to bring in a new striker who can support Rasmus Hojlund up top and Toney could be their man.
