Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Piere Hicapie’s situation, with Bayer Leverkusen likely to sell him to fund new transfers.
According to Sport Bild via Sport Witness, Piere Hincapie is a player on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer. The versatile left-sided defender can become a valued asset for Spurs, with Bayer Leverkusen open to sale, especially if fellow defender Jonathan Tah remains at the club beyond the next window.
Tottenham eyeing Piero Hincapie’s move
Bayer Leverkusen have had an exceptional season, with one big hand already on the Bundesliga title. Xabi Alonso has been praised for his squad usage. He has managed to keep his side unbeaten across all competitions this season, as they could finish the campaign emphatically, winning multiple titles.
Alonso has relied on most of his players in certain situations, and his use of defenders has been rather interesting. Piero Hincapie, the left-sided versatile star, can play multiple roles in that backline, but he’s not considered an undisputed starter for Leverkusen. Hence, the club is open to a sale, with some top clubs already showing big interest.
Liverpool are one of those, while Tottenham have now emerged as contenders for the €40 million-rated Bundesliga defender. Hincapie, a left-footed star, can be a valuable asset to many sides currently in the Premier League, especially the Merseysiders, who lack a player of his profile. Spurs’ are keen because they want to recruit someone on the left side who can play different roles.
Currently on their left sided centre-back role, Micky van den Ven looks like the sure starter under Ange Postecoglou. However, signing Hincapie could ease the pressure on the cover for the Dutchman and left-back Destiny Udogie, as Spurs lack a proper player to deputise for either.
Bayer Leverkusen are ready to sell on one condition
Leverkusen will have to sell some of their notable stars to bring the funds for new transfers in the summer. They are open to considering offers for the €40 million-rated Bundesliga defender should they manage to keep centre-back Jonathan Tah, who incidentally has Tottenham’s interest.
Tah will enter the final year of his deal, but there are chances of him staying here for the longer term. Hence, while Leverkusen might consider a sale of Hincapie, they will not be open to letting him and the German international depart in the same window, visibly weakening their defensive line.
