Liverpool are reportedly pushing hard for the signatures of 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defensive sensation Piero Hincapie.

According to a report by HITC, Liverpool are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season. The Reds want to bring in a new left-sided centre-back, and they have their eyes set on Piero Hincapie. The Bayer Leverkusen star has been in sensational form of late, and the Merseyside club have stepped up their interest in his pursuit.

Piero Hincapie and his impressive rise

Hincapie has been a part of the Bayer Leverkusen ranks since joining them in the summer of 2021. He has gone from strength to strength with every passing season and is currently a mainstay in the team. He has been integral to their dominant run as the Bundesliga club are the only unbeaten in team in Europe.

They are all set to end Bayern Munich’s title streak in the Bundesliga, and the 22-year-old has played a huge part in it. He has featured in 29 matches in all competitions. While the majority of those appearances have come in the heart of the defence, he has even featured as a left-back and a left-wing-back.

His impressive rise has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. While Hincapie did pen down a new deal last February and his contract runs until the summer of 2027, a possible exit in the summer can’t be ruled out.

Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Reds are all set to undergo major changes in the summer as Jurgen Klopp will end his stint at the club. Bayer Leverkusen’s current boss Xabi Alonso is a priority target for people at Anfield, and they are also looking at a few of their players to further bolster their squad.

Liverpool want to sign Hincapie

The Reds’ interest in Hincapie dates back almost two years. They have been keeping an eye on him ever since and of late. And Liverpool have started to watch him closely as they consider making a move in the summer.

The English giants have stepped up their interest in the 22-year-old as they look to bring in a new left-sided centre-back. Joel Matip is expected to part ways with the club after the end of the season.

While Jarell Quansah’s impressive rise has been a huge boost, Quansah, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are all right-footed. They need someone who is left-footed and can be a constant feature on that side of the defence. As a result, they have intensified their efforts to land the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.
