Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Manchester United forward Anthony Martial on a free transfer.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, Anthony Martial is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A heavyweights are in the market for an attacker heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 28-year-old Manchester United forward, who will become a free agent after the 2023/24 season ends.

Anthony Martial and a topsy-turvy Manchester United journey

Anthony Martial joined Manchester United from AS Monaco in a deal worth €60 million in September 2015. The Frenchman made an immediate impact for the Red Devils, coming off the bench to seal a 3-1 win over Liverpool. However, he has endured a rollercoaster ride since then.

The 28-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance and enjoyed a few excellent campaigns. However, the player’s stock has plummeted in the last few years, having spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Sevilla. Martial displayed some positive signs in Erik ten Hag’s debut season but has missed most of the 2023/24 campaign due to persistent injury woes.

Martial has managed only 629 minutes of game time across 19 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and one assist. However, the French international, who has turned out 30 times for Les Bleus, will leave Manchester United as a free agent in the summer transfer window. And his next destination might be Inter Milan.

Serie A move on the horizon?

Inter Milan considered signing Anthony Martial from Manchester United in the January transfer window. However, a move did not materialise, with the Red Devils keeping the former AS Monaco forward onboard at Old Trafford due to a lack of depth in the offensive department.

The Serie A giants remain interested in signing the 28-year-old Manchester United forward in the summer transfer window. And Martial’s impending free-agent status makes him an attractive target for the Nerazzurri due to the recent financial issues.

Manchester United will not stand in Martial’s way after deciding not to hand him a new contract. It will be interesting to see if the 30-cap French international moves to Serie A or seeks another destination to resurrect his stuttering career.
