Inter Milan could offer Anthony Martial a lifeline to rejuvenate his stagnant career with his time at Manchester United winding down.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Inter Milan are looking at Anthony Martial as a potential option to replace Marko Arnautovic in January. Manchester United are open to letting their underperforming £36 million forward leave and could wait on Inter Milan’s proposal.

Anthony Martial has had his ups and downs at Manchester United since making his high profile £36 million move from AS Monaco many years ago. It is nearly eight seasons since he made his mark. But his form has consistently dropped to an unrecognisable level in the last few years.

The arrival of Rasmus Hojlund during the summer further diminished his status within Erik ten Hag’s squad. The £36 million Manchester United forward has played about 220 minutes of football this season, which is terrible for a player of his quality.

Manchester United are finding ways to offload Martial in the upcoming window as they do not want to keep holding him and his high wages. They hope to get some money if they sell him, with the report revealing a cut-price fee that would suffice to sign the Frenchman.

The feeling is mutual, as Martial has no interest in staying at the club. His career continues to wind down at Manchester United, as a fresh start elsewhere seems like the optimal solution to revive his career. He does not have a shortage of interested parties, including many European teams looking at a bargain deal in the market.

There were a few rumblings about interest from Saudi Arabia, but there’s been nothing to follow up on that intent. Inter Milan are the latest to enter the race for the Manchester United forward, as club chiefs are eager to find a new attacker in the upcoming January window.

Inter has a stacked group of attackers, including Marcus Thuram, Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez on paper. Barring the Austrian, the other two arrived on free transfers, while Arnautovic came here on a loan move with an obligation to buy with a conditions clause.

So far, the 34-year-old has had regular injuries that have restricted his game time to 150 minutes. Inter Milan feels his constant absence has left a void in their attacking setup. The Serie A giants are considering a move for Martial to replace the Austrian, which would be another cost-effective move.

The report concludes by suggesting Manchester United may also agree to an initial loan move if Inter Milan cover the Frenchman’s salary. That is good news for the Serie A side, who may want to see what Martial could bring and whether he can revive his career and form away from the Red Devils.
