Manchester United and Aston Villa have held talks with Napoli full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo regarding a potential move in the summer.

According to a report by IL Mattino, Manchester United and Aston Villa are both keen on having Giovanni Di Lorenzo in their ranks. Both English clubs want to reinforce their defence and have already held talks with the Napoli full-back.

Di Lorenzo’s time at Napoli

Di Lorenzo has been a part of the Naples-based club since joining them back in 2019 from FC Empoli. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and is currently their club captain. The expectation was that the 30-year-old would end his career at Napoli but a lot has changed over the course of the ongoing season

He is frustrated and disappointed by the club’s management because of how things have collapsed after their Scudetto win. The Italian full-back is not happy with the project at hand which means there could be a possibility of him leaving at the end of the season despite him having a contract that runs until the summer of 2028.

While the team have struggled, the 30-year-old right back has still managed to put in consistent performances. The Napoli skipper has featured in 40 matches and has contributed with two goals and seven assists.

United & Villa keen on Di Lorenzo

Manchester United and Aston Villa are two clubs keen on his signatures. Both clubs feel the need to sign a new right-back. Injuries to Matty Cash have exposed Villa’s lack of depth at right-back and Unai Emery is keen on signing an experienced campaigner who can support the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s priority is to sign a new left-back but they are also looking to reinforce the opposite flank. While Diogo Dalot has been a consistent performer, the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been uncertain. As a result, they are looking at someone like Di Lorenzo to reinforce their defence.

Both English clubs have already held talks with the Italian star’s representatives to explore the possibility of a transfer in the summer. Meanwhile, the player is open to a possible transfer to England as the player’s side are facilitating further negotiations.

Di Lorenzo will look to meet the Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in the coming weeks as he looks to understand the club’s plans and project moving ahead. That meeting might have a huge say on his future.
