Manchester United will prioritise signing Joshua Kimmich as a replacement for Casemiro, with Barcelona in a precarious position in the chase.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Joshua Kimmich is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a world-class holding midfielder to replace Casemiro. Meanwhile, the Bayern Munich utility man, whose price tag is €50 million, is also a target for Barcelona.

Joshua Kimmich and his Rise

Joshua Kimmich has had an interesting career thus far. The 29-year-old has been a world-class right-back and one of the best holding midfielders in the world thus far. And he has reprised both roles in the 2023/24 season thus far, thanks mainly due to Thomas Tuchel’s dislike towards his performances as a defensive midfielder.

Kimmich has also been in and out of the starting lineup at times, making 31 appearances thus far this term while chipping in with a goal and eight assists. Meanwhile, the German international faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena after entering the final 18 months of his contract with Bayern Munich.

Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Barcelona would love to secure Kimmich’s services as a long-term successor to Sergio Busquets. But the Catalan giants’ financial issues have forced them to put off the move for the Bayern Munich utility man until 2025. That has opened the door for other suitors, including Manchester United.

Manchester United Want Kimmich

Manchester United’s interest in Joshua Kimmich is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a world-class midfielder amid the regressing performance levels of Casemiro. The Brazilian international faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after a sub-par campaign thus far with Manchester United.

Kimmich has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. The Red Devils are now prioritising a summer move for the 29-year-old German international. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will demand around €50 million to part ways with him. Manchester United should not have any qualms about shelling out the sum.

€50 million seems like a fair price for Kimmich, considering he can be a solution in two positions. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat Barcelona and the other clubs to his signature in the summer transfer window.
