Serie A giants AS Roma will reportedly have the chance to sign 30-year-old Newcastle United goalkeeper Loris Karius in a Bosman move.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, intermediaries have offered AS Roma the chance to sign Loris Karius. The 30-year-old goalkeeper will likely leave Newcastle United as a free agent in the summer transfer window. But the Serie A giants are not interested in signing the experienced shot-stopper.

The Loris Karius Journey

Loris Karius has gone between Germany and England during his professional career thus far. A native of Biberach an der Riß, the German goalkeeper spent most of his formative years in his homeland but graduated from the Manchester City youth division. However, he began his professional career in Germany with FSV Mainz 05.

But the 30-year-old rose in prominence after joining Liverpool, although his error-prone displays compelled the Reds to invest in a world-class goalkeeper. Karius was a part of the UEFA Champions League final with Liverpool, losing to Real Madrid, with his howlers affecting the result.

The experienced goalkeeper spent most of his time away from Liverpool after the UCL final and left the Merseyside club as a free agent in July 2022. Newcastle United snapped him up in September, and he has been a bit-part player for the Magpies since then. Karius has managed only one appearance this term and will leave Newcastle United as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

What Next?

With Loris Karius now looking forward to the next phase of his career, intermediaries have offered him to AS Roma. The Serie A giants are in the market for a goalkeeper amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Rui Patricio and Mile Svilar. Recent reports have linked the latter with West Ham United.

So, the Serie A giants might dip their toes in the market for a goalkeeper, with Karius potentially being a viable target. But AS Roma will not take up the offer to sign the 30-year-old Newcastle United goalkeeper. But other Serie A clubs might receive the opportunity to secure his services in a Bosman move this summer.

Meanwhile, AS Roma might enter the market for other cost-effective signings, with Real Madrid defender Nacho among the targets. As for Karius, it will be interesting to see where he lands when he leaves Newcastle United as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
