La Liga champions Barcelona recently knocked back a bid worth €35 million for 17-year-old homegrown defender Hector Fort.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona recently turned down an offer for Hector Fort. The 17-year-old was the subject of a bid worth €35 million, although the publication has not named the club that submitted the proposal. However, the reigning La Liga champions are not entertaining the idea of selling him in the summer transfer window.

Who is Hector Fort?

Hector Fort is the latest highly-rated prospect to graduate from Barcelona’s fabled La Masia division. A native of Barcelona, the teenage sensation began his youth career at PB Anguera before joining the Blaugrana as a seven-year-old in 2013. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds at the Catalan club, rising through the ranks rapidly.

The Spanish defensive prospect currently turns out for Barcelona Atletic and is a regular for the club’s reserve side. But he has also broken into the first-team squad at the Catalan club, making his senior debut in December 2023. The 17-year-old has already made seven appearances for Barcelona this season.

While Barcelona will look to complete a permanent move for Joao Cancelo, the Portuguese international will turn 30 this year. The reigning La Liga champions are currently struggling to seal an agreement with Manchester City over the transfer fee. But Cancelo remains the top right-back target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.

However, as iterated earlier, Cancelo will be on the wrong side of 30 when the 2024/25 season begins. So, having Hector Fort as the deputy right-back will bode well for Barcelona in the long run. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old homegrown wide man can learn the ropes from the 29-year-old for a few years before becoming the first-choice right-back.

Barcelona Turn Down Bid for Fort

Barcelona’s never-ending financial problems also mean that having a long-term right-back solution in the 17-year-old will serve them well. So, it is hardly surprising that the Blaugrana recently turned down a bid worth €35 million for Fort.

The report does not reveal the identity of the club that submitted the bid to secure Fort’s services. But with Barcelona knocking back the offer, the suitor will have to look elsewhere for a right-back.
