Barcelona will reportedly attempt to sign 29-year-old Portuguese international Joao Cancelo from Manchester City for less than €25 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Barcelona will look to complete a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window. But they will attempt to secure his services for less than €25 million, a value considerably lower than his market value of €40 million.

How has Joao Cancelo Fared at Barcelona?

Joao Cancelo has been an exceptional signing for Barcelona since arriving from Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions were desperate to find a solution to their right-back woes. And they found a temporary fix by landing the Portuguese international on a season-long loan deal.

The 29-year-old has been an excellent addition to the Barcelona squad. He has chipped in with three goals and three assists in 25 appearances thus far this term. Cancelo has been one of the best players for Barcelona this season, often shining bright whenever the others struggle.

Manchester City Want a Permanent Deal for Joao Cancelo

So, it is hardly surprising that the Catalan giants are working on a formula to complete a permanent transfer for Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window. And the presence of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City should work in Barcelona’s favour as they look to hash out a deal.

Meanwhile, Cancelo is reportedly prioritising extending his stint with Barcelona by signing on the dotted line for a permanent transfer. The 29-year-old does not have a future at Manchester City after a run-in with Pep Guardiola midway through the 2022/23 season. But Barcelona’s financial problems might hold up a deal.

The report claims that Barcelona will attempt to secure Cancelo’s services for a transfer fee of less than €25 million. That value is considerably lower than the Portuguese international’s market value of €40 million. So, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City will be open to parting ways with the 29-year-old for less than €25 million.

Barcelona will hope that Guardiola helps them when negotiations begin between the two clubs. But the discussions will likely linger for a long time, with reports claiming talks might become complicated due to Manchester City’s demands and Barcelona’s financial predicament.
