Real Madrid are leading the race for the services of 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz amidst interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to a report by Defensa Central, Real Madrid are front-runners for the signatures of Florian Wirtz. The 20-year-old sensation has been on fire in the ongoing season and his impressive performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe.

Wirtz joined the Bayer Leverkusen youth ranks in the winter of 2020. It took him six months to go from the Under-19 team to the first team. The 20-year-old hasn’t looked back since getting promoted.

He has been on another level this season. The German international has featured in 36 matches and has contributed towards 28 goals, he has found the back of the net on 11 occasions and has 17 assists to his name.

Leverkusen have been on a dominant run in the ongoing season and Wirtz has played a big part in it. They have been unbeaten in all competitions and are all set to end Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga winning streak.

Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing Wirtz

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder’s performances have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs from across Europe. Arsenal and Liverpool are two English clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

The Gunners do have Martin Ødegaard in their ranks but they need someone who can provide cover for him. Wirtz will not only add depth but his versatility will give Mikel Arteta more options to work with.

Meanwhile, Liverpool underwent a midfield overhaul last summer and that has done wonders for them. However, they feel there is a bit more work to be done ahead of next season and adding an attack-minded midfielder is at the top of their wishlist.

Real Madrid leading the race for Wirtz

They are huge admirers of the German international and would love to have him in their ranks. But, according to the report Liverpool and Arsenal are behind Real Madrid in the race for his services. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for players who can further bolster their ranks and they feel Writz could do wonders for them in the long run.

But, they are not looking to make a move for him in the upcoming summer. Real Madrid have a plan in place for the upcoming summer and Wirtz is not a part of it. While the 20-year-old prefers joining the Spanish giants he will have to wait until 2025 because Carlo Ancelotti’s team will only consider this possibility next year or in 2026.

With Los Blancos unlikely to make a move next summer, Liverpool and Arsenal do have an opportunity to convince the Leverkusen star to choose England as his next destination.
