Chelsea will compete with Manchester United in the race to sign American full-back Antonee Robinson from Fulham.

A report from Give Me Sport claims that Chelsea want to sign Antonee Robinson and they might have to pay more than £35 million. Manchester United are in the race as well, and it will be interesting to see where the Fulham defender ends up.

Robinson has established himself as a top-quality Premier League full-back, and his performances of attracted the attention of the top clubs. Both Chelsea and Manchester United need a quality defender, and Robinson would be a superb addition.

Chelsea need to bring in an upgrade on Marc Cucurella, who has been quite underwhelming since moving to Stamford Bridge for a substantial amount of money. Robinson is well-settled in the Premier League, and he could prove to be an upgrade on the Spaniard next season.

However, while Chelsea’s interest in the Fulham full-back makes sense, they will not be able to provide him with European football, and the defender might want to join a bigger club. As far as Manchester United are concerned, they need a quality left-back who can compete with Luke Shaw for the starting spot.

Shaw has had several injury problems since moving to Old Trafford, and he is certainly not physically capable of playing every game. Another reliable left-back will be a priority for Manchester United and it will be interesting to see if they can sign Robinson in the summer.

Antonee Robinson will want to play for a big club

A move to Chelsea or Manchester United will be an exciting step up in the defender’s career, and he will look to prove himself at the highest level. He will want to compete in Europe with them in the coming seasons and win major trophies as well.

It will be interesting to see if the two clubs are prepared to pay the reported £35 million asking price for the 26-year-old American International in the coming months. Fulham will not want to let the player leave for a knockdown price. So, the two English clubs will have to agree to their demands to get the deal done.
