Manchester United are keen on acquiring the services of the 22-year-old Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez as they push for a left-bac.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on GiveMeSport, Manchester United are keen on bolstering their defence ahead of next season. The Red Devils want to add a new left-back to their ranks to ensure they have enough depth and quality in the full-back department. Girona star Miguel Gutierrez is one of the names on their radar.

Miguel Gutierrez’s rise at Girona

Miguel Gutierrez came up the ranks at Real Madrid. While he did make it to their first team, the 22-year-old was sold to Girona in that very summer. Since joining them, he has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the mainstays of the team.

The Spanish club are currently fighting for the league title. They have been on a dominant run and Gutierrez has played a big part in it. In the ongoing season, the full-back has five goal contributions in his 25 outings.

His impressive display has caught the attention of Manchester United, who are considering adding another left-back to the mix in the summer. The English club are expected to have a busy summer under the new partial owners, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Reinforcing the defence is a priority for Manchester United

While Manchester will have a limited budget, they do have quite a few areas to reinforce. They desperately need a new left-back. Erik ten Hag’s team have suffered throughout this season because of the number of injuries in the backline.

The lack of depth has forced them to use Victor Lindelof as a left-back at times. While Luke Shaw is an exceptional full-back, he has been injury-prone of late. As a result, Manchester United are looking at Miguel Gutierrez as a potential long-term replacement.

The Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on the €30 million-rated left-back and could make a move in the summer. While Manchester United are keen, Real Madrid have also been linked with their youth product.

Real Madrid’s buy-back clause

Los Blancos have been watching Miguel Gutierrez from close quarters. And, on the back of his performances for Girona in the ongoing season, they feel he could fight for a place in their first team.

Real Madrid have a buy-back close worth only €8 million. As a result, they could be a huge hurdle for Manchester United. The Spanish giants also have a 50% sell-on clause in his deal, which means either way they will benefit from his transfer.
