Fabrizio Romano has insisted he had no knowledge about Tottenham’s links with Mikayil Faye and that there was a massive interest in the defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Mikayil Faye has massive interest from some European sides. However, he insisted he had no knowledge about Tottenham’s pursuit of the defender. Spurs were recently linked with the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy, but the Catalans consider him an exceptional talent.

Fabrizio Romano’s take on Tottenham interest in Mikayil Faye

The 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy, Mikayil Faye, has seen a host of clubs lining up in the hope of signing him. The Catalans are in a financial rut, which could force them to sell some critical players, including the emerging Selegalese talent.

Faye has not yet been a significant performer for Barcelona, although Xavi recently included him in the first-team setup. Still playing most of his football with Barcelona Atletic, the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy has a big chance to get into the first-team setup starting next season.

He was also recently called up to the Senegal national side and could debut during the international break. Tottenham have recently been linked with a move and could see the teenager as a brilliant addition as cover to their current first-choice centre-backs.

Spurs are also expected to return to European football next season, meaning they need exceptional depth in all areas, particularly central defence. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has insisted there are many clubs interested in Faye but needs to be made aware of any pursuit by the Spurs.

Romano said, “There has also been a story about Tottenham being interested in signing 19-year-old talent Mikayil Faye from the Catalan giants. However, I have no info on this so far – all I know is that OGC Nice and RC Lens wanted him last January, but so did Ajax and Girona. Let’s see who’s going to try in the summer but also, remember that Barca consider him a special talent.”

Barcelona’s plans for Faye

As Romano mentioned those interested clubs, Barcelona rejected RC Lens’ bid for Faye in January. They are still deciding about his future ahead of the summer window but will not get drawn into making a swift call on the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy.

Arsenal are also closely monitoring Faye, meaning some high-profile clubs are eager to see if Barcelona part ways with the young star. The Catalans could keep him for next season or sell him with some clauses like a buy-back option or a sell-on term attached to the buying club should Faye leave.
