Liverpool have made contact with Mac Guehi’s camp as they ramp up their pursuit of the Crystal Palace defender ahead of the summer.

Team Talk reports that Liverpool contacted Marc Guehi’s representatives before a possible summer move. The Reds plan on adding a high-profile defender to their ranks in the next window to replace Joel Matip and could move for the 23-year-old Crystal Palace star.

Liverpool ramp up Marc Guehi’s chase?

Marc Guehi has proved his case at the highest level since moving to Crystal Palace from Chelsea. The defender has become a mainstay with the Eagles and has a chance to jump to a bigger club in the summer window.

Palace are aware of the growing interest in the 23-year-old defender and will demand a massive fee for his sale. Liverpool are optimistic about signing him, as are some other sides, including former club Chelsea. The Reds are keen to add a high-profile centre-back to their ranks in the summer and may target the Eagles man.

In what appears to be taking a step forward, Liverpool have reportedly contacted Guehi’s representatives to get ahead in the chase. The Merseysiders will probably have explored the defender’s conditions for joining them and the potential fee that Palace may slap for his services.

Guehi might seem attractive, but he’s not the only one. Liverpool remain linked with an array of central defenders, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, Sporting CP pair Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande, among others.

Where does Guehi fit in at Liverpool?

Two possible scenarios exist to determine where Guehi might fit in at Liverpool. For starters, the club might not renew Joel Matip’s deal beyond the season, which could see them sign a high-profile star to partner with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Incidentally, with Klopp’s departure, there are a few uncertain futures at Liverpool, including that of Van Dijk. Considering Guehi likes playing on the left-hand side of the central defensive area, he might also be seen as a long-term successor to the Dutchman, although fans will hope that is not the case.
