Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of the 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur target Jonathan Tah.

According to SportBILD via SportWitness, Liverpool are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Jonathan Tah. The 28-year-old has transformed himself into a world-class centre-back under Xabi Alonso and it has resulted in interest from across Europe.

Tah came up the ranks at Hamburger SV and was a part of their first team for two years before making the move to Leverkusen in the summer of 2015. He has been a consistent performer for them over the years but of late, he seems to have taken his game to the next level.

The 28-year-old has gone from strength to strength since the arrival of Alonso at the club. Tah has been instrumental in Leverkusen’s iconic unbeaten run in the ongoing season. They are yet to lose a game and are top of the Bundesliga.

Liverpool’s interest in the German international

Tah has featured in 28 matches so far and has even scored six crucial goals. His impressive performances have attracted interest from elsewhere. Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

The Reds want more quality in the heart of their defence, the club wants to add another world-class defender alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté to ensure they have enough to compete for all major titles. Tah is one of the centre-backs on their list of targets for the summer.

Tah’s contract at Leverkusen: Release cause worth €18 million

Tah’s contract with the German club runs out in the summer of 2025. There is a low release clause in his deal that will kick in when he enters the final 12 months of his deal which means a departure in the summer is surely on the cards if doesn’t sign a new deal.

He will be available for just €18 million and as per the report, the 28-year-old prefers a move to the Premier League above anywhere else. As a result, there is a high possibility of the Merseyside club striking a deal. But, they are not the only English club keen on his signatures.

Even Spurs want him in their ranks, they might have made a few defensive signings in the past few windows but Ange Postecoglou still wants another centre-back in the summer and Tah is a part of their list. But, Liverpool have the edge as the player will only move to a club that can offer Champions League football which Spurs can’t guarantee at this stage.
