Chelsea are prepared to entertain offers for Marc Cucurella and even considering selling the left-back at a substantial loss.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are not planning to keep Marc Cucurella beyond the current season and will listen to offers coming in for the £63 million signing. The Blues are open to taking a substantial loss on their investment in the Spaniard as they could potentially accept a fee for half the price they paid Brighton.
Chelsea to sell Marc Cucurella for a loss?
Chelsea really did battle it out with Manchester City for the signature of Marc Cucurella, as Brighton took full advantage of the transfer tussle to extract the best possible price. The Spaniard, a £63 million signing from the Seagulls, has never managed to make his mark at Stamford Bridge and is in danger of getting sold.
Chelsea are prepared to sell four current stars to boost their financial standings, with the Spaniard a part of that list. Cucurella does fit the club stylistically but has never managed to enjoy a concerted spell in his preferred position since arriving at the club.
He has been used as a centre-back, left midfielder, left-back and even a right-back under various managers so far at Chelsea. The club have run out of patience with their £63 million signing, as they will reportedly consider offers for half that price.
Chelsea are reportedly open to selling Cucurella for around £30-35 million and take a substantial loss on their investment in the left-back. There might be some Premier League clubs showing an interest, although there are some admirers, including Barcelona from Spain.
Will Chelsea replace Cucurella?
Chelsea are already making plans to replace Cucurella and bring in someone who could offer stiff competition for Ben Chilwell. The Englishman has also endured persistent injury issues since joining Chelsea from Leicester, but in recent weeks, he has looked fit and firing. The Blues have Archie Brown of KAA Gent on their shortlist, while there are some others as well.
Fulham’s Antonee Robinson also features on their list, although they will face a significant challenge to convince their local rivals to sell them one of their key stars. Either way, a player like Cucurella must need replacing, although it’s unclear what route Chelsea will take as they might go with an unproven young signing or spend more on a more established star.
