Chelsea and Liverpool could battle it out for Lois Openda in the summer window, although RB Leipzig will extract top value for the striker.
According to Fichajes, Lois Openda could brew a transfer battle between Chelsea and Liverpool in the summer. The two Premier League giants are looking at the RB Leipzig star as one of the many options, with the German side likely to demand a substantial fee to sell him.
Chelsea, Liverpool battle for Lois Openda
In the season that has been, Lois Openda has proved himself as one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. His performances for RB Leipzig since the summer move from RC Lens have added much value to the Bundesliga side. The 21-goal attacker has attracted more prominent suitors, with some wanting a January move.
Manchester United were quoted around £70 million ahead of January, which makes sense, considering Leipzig paid about £45 million to sign him. They have no intention to stand in his way should the 21-goal attacker express his desire to leave, as Chelsea and Liverpool could open up a battle for his services.
The Merseysiders are keen on a new attacker should they part ways with Mohamed Salah, although they have plenty of players in Openda’s position. While the Merseysiders will primarily target a right winger should the Egyptian depart, they might only prioritise a centre-forward if they can find a bargain deal somewhere.
Chelsea, however, have a different agenda, as they seek a new striker to lead the line. The likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, and Ivan Toney have all seen mentions; the idea of Openda might be a bright one, considering the form of the 21-goal attacker this season with Leipzig.
Chelsea and Liverpool keen on a new attacker
As mentioned above, Liverpool are not overly keen on a new striker and will use their funds to find the ideal Salah replacement. The Reds could keep the Egyptian if the conditions are right and invest in a versatile forward, something Openda can fulfil, as he tends to operate in all front three positions.
Chelsea are in a bit of a confused state with their finances, as multiple reports state they are not very healthy with their money. Hence, one might assume they would forget the idea of an Osimhen for the costs involved and focus on comparatively cheap players, like Openda.
