Everton will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old English defender Jacob Greaves from EFL Championship club Hull City to replace Jarrad Branthwaite.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Jacob Greaves is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are in the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Jarrad Branthwaite. The 23-year-old Hull City defender has thus emerged as a viable target.

Who is Jacob Greaves?

Jacob Greaves has been among the most underrated defenders in the EFL Championship in the last few years. A native of Cottingham, he spent his entire youth career with Hull City, joining them in 2008 as an eight-year-old before rising through the ranks at the club.

The 23-year-old spent six months at Cheltenham Town before breaking into the first-team squad at Hull City. He made his first-team debut in October 2020 and has not looked back since then. The Englishman has made more than 40 appearances in every season since his debut campaign and is on course to emulate that this term.

Greaves has turned out 35 times thus far for Hull City, chipping in with two goals and four assists. But 2023/24 might be his final season at the Championship, with a possible move to Everton on the cards. And the Toffees view the underrated defender as a potential replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Everton Want Greaves

Everton’s interest in Jacob Greaves is understandable. Jarrad Branthwaite faces an uncertain future at Goodison Park amid emerging interest in his services. Several high-profile clubs are keen on signing the young Englishman, with Manchester United reportedly leading the race to secure his services.

Greaves has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton heading into the summer transfer window. The Merseyside club might have to let Branthwaite leave to balance the books and evade the sanctions from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. So, we might see the Hull City centre-back replacing him at Goodison Park.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Jarrad Branthwaite if he leaves Everton in the summer transfer window. For now, Jacob Greaves has emerged as an option worth considering for the Merseyside club.
