Newcastle United are contemplating entering the Ivan Toney chase to rival Arsenal and Chelsea for the Brentford striker.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United have considered making an approach for Ivan Toney in the summer. The 27-year-old Brentford star is pencilled in to depart the club after the 2023/24 season ends, with Arsenal and Chelsea also considering moves.

Newcastle United join Ivan Toney chase

Newcastle United will enter the summer window needing critical players in multiple positions. Irrespective of whether Eddie Howe stays or leaves, the Magpies will attack the transfer window seeking reinforcements, including a new striker.

Callum Wilson could depart as he would enter the final year of his deal, and the Magpies might cash in on the 32-year-old. There were a few suggestions that they might sell some of their top stars to balance their financial books, including star striker Alexander Isak, although the Swede might stay.

Either way, they are looking to replace Wilson and bringing in competition for Isak. Now, Newcastle United have set their sights on Brentford’s Ivan Toney, joining a host of other rivals in the chase for the 27-year-old striker. It would be a massive coup if they signed the England international, but the competition for his signature could get intense.

Newcastle United may have the financial capacity to pay what Brentford seek. However, they will want to take advantage of his contractual situation as he enters the final year of his deal. Should the other rivals back out of the race, the Magpies may have a brilliant chance to sign the 27-year-old Brentford star in the summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea keen on Toney

Arsenal have long been linked with Toney and are best placed to sign the 27-year-old should they make an approach. The Brentford star reportedly prefers the Gunners over others, although things will depend on Mikel Arteta’s preference, considering how things have changed in his squad over the last few months.

Similarly, Chelsea are looking for a new No.9 and have set sights on several top draw options including Victor Osimhen. They clearly prefer the Nigerian, although their league position at the end of the season may affect their chances. In that case, Chelsea may consider a move for Toney and should be in the race alongside Arsenal and Newcastle United.
