Arsenal are firmly in the race for Ivan Toney ahead of the summer, with Brentford likely to part ways with the 27-year-old striker.

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are well-placed to sign Ivan Toney in the summer, as the Gunners are firmly in the race for the 27-year-old Manchester United target. Brentford are likely to sell him as he enters the final year of his deal, as they could demand a big fee.

Arsenal ‘well-placed’ for Ivan Toney.

During a press conference a few months ago, Mikel Arteta underlined that Arsenal did not possess a traditional No.9 in their squad and was subsequently linked with a move for Ivan Toney. The Gunners put six goals past West Ham United at the weekend, and yet the media continues to link them with a new striker.

Toney remains a firm target among other names ahead of the summer market. The 27-year-old, who only returned in January after serving an eight-month ban, has already made a big mark by scoring thrice in four games.

He is expected to leave Brentford, with the London side having no choice but to sell him, considering Toney is entering the final year of his deal. Arsenal are hence ‘well placed’ to sign the 27-year-old and are firmly settled in the race for the forward.

Arteta will explore the possibility of bringing the England international to the Emirates if the price is right. The Gunners are not willing to offer more than £60 million or so for the forward, as they will likely open talks with Brentford to explore the possibility after the season ends.

Manchester United to rival Arsenal for Toney?

Arsenal may have a stronghold in the race for Toney, assuming they have done plenty of groundwork on the forward. However, they are not alone in the chase for the 27-year-old, with Manchester United also interested in the forward.

The Red Devils may not necessarily need a striker, as the links to Toney emerged when Rasmus Hojlund was underperforming in the Premier League. They might still explore the idea of bringing the 27-year-old to Old Trafford, although Arsenal may have plenty of factors that would suit the striker to stay in London and join the Gunners if it came to a straight-up battle between the two English giants.
