Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are reportedly willing to initiate discussions with Jorginho over a new contract.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Jorginho has entered the final six months of his £110,000-a-week contract with Arsenal. Widespread reports have linked the 32-year-old with several Serie A clubs, including Juventus. But the Gunners are ready to open talks with him over a new one-year deal, which will have an optional additional year.

Jorginho and his Arsenal Story

Jorginho has been a dependable performer since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in a surprise move in January 2023. The Italian international had enjoyed a solid spell with the West London outfit, winning the UEFA Europa League and the Champions League with the club. But after losing his spot as the first-choice midfielder, he wanted a new adventure.

Arsenal provided the 32-year-old midfielder an escape route, but he has been a backup option for the North London club. Nevertheless, he has made his mark for Arsenal, turning out 25 times thus far this season while chipping in with a goal and an assist. But Jorginho’s long-term Arsenal future is uncertain as he has entered the final six months of his contract.

Widespread reports have linked him with a potential return to Serie A, although Turkish clubs also considered a winter move for him. He was also a target for other well-known outfits, although a January transfer did not materialise, with Barcelona ruling out a late swoop.

What Next?

But amid uncertainties surrounding Jorginho’s future, Arsenal might hand him a new contract. The report claims that the Gunners are ready to open talks with the Italian international midfielder’s entourage over a new one-year deal, which will have an optional additional year.

Arsenal will unlikely hike or reduce his £110,000-a-week wages if talks over a new contract succeed. But it is unclear if Jorginho is ready to commit his short-term future to the North London club when a return to Serie A is on the cards.

Recent reports have linked the 32-year-old with Juventus and Lazio. Joining Lazio will mean he can reunite with his favourite manager, Maurizio Sarri. But it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can extend Jorginho’s stay at the Emirates.
