Aston Villa might launch a permanent move for 28-year-old French international Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Clement Lenglet is turning his fortunes around at Aston Villa. The 28-year-old nearly left the West Midlands outfit in the winter transfer window. But the Villans are now considering permanently signing him from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Clement Lenglet and his Rollercoaster Ride at Aston Villa

Clement Lenglet has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona on Deadline Day of last summer’s transfer window. The French defender returned to the Premier League for a second successive season after a temporary spell at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2022/23 campaign.

But the 28-year-old endured a frustrating first half of the 2023/24 season as he only secured regular game time in the UEFA Europa Conference League. However, his fortunes have turned for the better in the last few weeks, and he has started nine consecutive games for Aston Villa.

Lenglet has turned out 17 times across all competitions thus far this season, amassing 1,502 minutes of game time. With his fortunes improving, a permanent move to Aston Villa might be on the cards for the Frenchman. And the report has claimed that Unai Emery is not ruling out a deal heading into the summer transfer window.

Permanent Move on the Cards?

Aston Villa nearly parted ways with Clement Lenglet last month, and AC Milan wanted to secure his services. But Emery did not sanction the French international’s departure, suggesting he wanted to take a look at him in the second half of the 2023/24 season. That has paid off in the player’s favour.

Lenglet has now become the first-choice centre-back for Aston Villa, featuring in the central defensive partnership even after Pau Torres’s return. So, it will not be surprising to see Aston Villa launching a permanent move for the 28-year-old Barcelona loanee in the summer transfer window.

The player’s desire will also hold the key, and it will be interesting to see if Lenglet wants to complete a permanent move to Villa Park in the summer transfer window. But Aston Villa might look to prise him away from Barcelona if his progress continues.
