Manchester United are reportedly ready to sanction a permanent sale of 21-year-old Tunisian midfield prospect Hannibal Mejbri.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to part ways with Hannibal Mejbri after he returns from his loan spell with Sevilla in the summer transfer window. The Andalusian giants have the option to complete a permanent deal for £15 million. But they are not ready to trigger that clause ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Hannibal Mejbri and his Manchester United Journey
Hannibal Mejbri has had to bide his time since joining Manchester United from AS Monaco in August 2019. The 21-year-old was one of the most promising young midfield prospects in France before he moved to the Premier League club. He then made his mark in age-group football in England, quickly rising through the ranks at Manchester United.
But the Tunisian international has yet to become a regular for the Manchester United first team. He spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Birmingham City FC before returning to Old Trafford. But Mejbri managed only 329 minutes of game time in the first half of the 2023/24 season.
So, it was hardly surprising that Manchester United decided to loan him out to Sevilla in the winter transfer window. But the youngster’s struggles have not ended, as he has managed only 37 minutes of game time across three appearances in the six weeks he has spent at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Struggling on Loan at Sevilla
Sevilla can complete a permanent move in the summer transfer window by paying £15 million to Manchester United. But the report claims that the Andalusian giants will not exercise that option when the 2023/24 season ends. So, Hannibal Mejbri will return to Old Trafford in June.
But he might not have a long-term future at Manchester United, with the Premier League heavyweights ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window. However, they will unlikely recoup £15 million while parting ways with him later this year.
It will be interesting to see if any club will look to complete a permanent move for Mejbri in the summer transfer window or if another loan move is on the cards. But the 21-year-old midfield prospect does not have a bright future at Old Trafford.
