Crysencio Summerville could stay at Leeds United should they gain promotion, which could blow Aston Villa’s hope.
According to Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Leeds United could see Crysencio Summerville stay at the club despite heavy links to some Premier League sides. The Dutchman might prefer to remain at Elland Road, particularly if the club gains promotion, which could deal a blow to Aston Villa’s hopes.
Aston Villa dealt a blow in Crysencio Summerville chase
Crysencio Summerville has been one of the Championship’s standout performers this season, racking up 16 goals and nine assists. Leicester City are the outright favourite to gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League. But there is a tight fight between Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Southampton for the second spot.
Owing to Summerville’s tremendous performances, Leeds United are currently second in the table, level on points with Ipswich, with Southampton only two points behind them in fourth. The Dutchman had already attracted interest from Aston Villa in January. But there was no chance he would leave the Elland Road outfit.
He had reiterated his commitment to Leeds United and remains happy at the club. With Aston Villa likely to return in the summer with another approach, Liverpool are also keen on the Dutchman. However, Ben Jacobs insists he could stay at Elland Road should they gain promotion, although he concedes that things could change in the likelihood of Leeds staying in the Championship.
Aston Villa might give it another try
Aston Villa might have wanted the 22-year-old winger on priority in the January transfer window ahead of their other targets. He was Unai Emery’s primary target as he sought a goalscoring presence from the wide attacking areas. However, the player might have chosen to stay put as he remains loyal to Leeds UNited.
Eventually, Aston Villa ended up signing Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough, although that does not end their interest in Crysencio Summerville. Emery might ask the club to make another approach in the summer, and they could have a shot at the Dutchman should Leeds United not gain promotion back to the Premier League.
