Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly look to prise 19-year-old Spanish wonderkid Gavi away from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to Ben Jacobs, Gavi is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The reigning Ligue 1 champions are in the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 19-year-old Barcelona wonderkid, although securing his services might be a tall order.
The Rise and Rise of Gavi
Gavi has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world since breaking into Barcelona’s first-team squad. A native of Los Palacios y Villafranca in Seville, he trained with Real Betis before joining Barcelona in 2015. And the Spaniard has come leaps and bounds at the Catalan club in the last nine years.
The teenage sensation made his first-team debut for Barcelona as a 17-year-old, with the club’s financial issues forcing them to turn to La Masia for solutions. Since then, the 19-year-old has not looked back, becoming a regular for his club and country. But Gavi’s 2023/24 campaign has already ended due to a knee injury, restricting him to just 15 outings.
Meanwhile, Gavi’s progress with Barcelona has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Many Premier League bigwigs, including Chelsea, have set their sights on the Spanish wonderkid. But they will face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG Want Gavi
PSG will enter the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window. While they have heavily invested in midfielders in the last few transfer windows, their midfield department still needs more quality. So, they have shown interest in several candidates, including Newcastle United duo Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.
But Gavi is also a viable target for PSG, with the reigning Ligue 1 champions ready to launch the offensive to sign the 19-year-old wonderkid in the summer transfer window. But prising him away from Barcelona might be a tall order.
The Spanish international is happy and content at the Catalan club and growing in stature with every passing game. So, it will be surprising if PSG can secure Gavi’s services in the summer transfer window.
