Tottenham Hotspur have submitted an offer to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha, but they will face competition from Liverpool.
A report from Spanish publication SPORT has claimed that Tottenham have tabled a €70 million bid to sign Raphinha. The 27-year-old Barcelona winger is also a target for fellow Premier League club Liverpool.
Raphinha has four goals and seven assists to his name across all competitions this season, and he could prove to be a useful addition to the Tottenham attack. They need to add more creativity and goals to the side, and the 27-year-old will certainly help them improve going forward.
The Brazilian has played in the Premier League before with Leeds United, and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an instant impact. Tottenham need to improve their squad to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons. Signing a proven Premier League performer would certainly be a wise decision. Raphinha is open to a return to England as well.
Barcelona are going through financial difficulties, and they will be tempted to sell the player at the end of the season. Raphinha has done reasonably well for them but he is not an indispensable asset. They will be able to replace him and improve the other areas of their squad with the €70 million.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the former Leeds United winger as well. Mohamed Salah has been linked with an exit from the club at the end of this season. Saudi Arabian clubs wanted to sign the player last summer, and they are expected to return when the season concludes. Also, he has a contract until 2025. So, Liverpool need to consider selling him in the summer of 2024. They cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer.
Raphinha is being looked at as a potential replacement for the 31-year-old Liverpool star, and it will be interesting to see which of the two English clubs manage to win the race for his signature. Both clubs have exciting projects at their disposal, and they are well-placed to secure Champions League qualification as well.
