Arsenal and Liverpool will not pursue Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid, due to his high wages.
According to a report by The Independent, Kylian Mbappe is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. But the Spanish giants are struggling to seal an agreement with the French international over personal terms. Meanwhile, Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool have ruled out a move for the Paris Saint-Germain attacker.
The Rise and Rise of Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe has become one of the best players in the world since rising in prominence over half a dozen years ago. The 25-year-old played his part as AS Monaco shocked Paris Saint-Germain to win the Ligue 1 title in the 2016/17 season while also reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, showed interest in the French international before PSG snapped him up on an initial loan deal in August 2017. He has been with PSG for over six years and is enjoying an exceptional 2023/24 campaign. The player has amassed 29 goals and seven assists in just 28 appearances thus far this term.
But Mbappe’s long-term PSG future is uncertain as he has entered the final six months of his contract. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of bigwigs like Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Liverpool. And recent reports have claimed that he will likely join Real Madrid in the summer.

As for the Premier League interest, reports have pointed to Liverpool being the best-placed Premier League club to secure Mbappe’s services. But Liverpool and Arsenal have now pulled out of the race to sign him due to his high wages. While the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner would have undoubtedly considerably bolstered their offensive units, his salary pushed them out of the running.
As for Real Madrid, while the Merengues lead the race to sign the Frenchman, they are yet to seal the agreement over personal terms. Nonetheless, Mbappe should soon move to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he can add to Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking options.
Meanwhile, PSG will look to tie him to a new contract, although that appears highly unlikely. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid and Mbappe can reach a common ground on wages, with a move to Spain on the cards for the World Cup winner.
