Chelsea are interested in acquiring the services of 24-year-old French defender Jean-Clair Todibo to succeed Thiago Silva at the club.

According to a report by Fichajes, Chelsea are preparing themselves for life without Thiago Silva, and they have their eyes set on Jean-Clair Todibo. The 24-year-old OGC Nice defender has been in sensational form of late and the Blues are keen on having him in their ranks.

Jean-Clair Todibo and his Resurgence

Things might not have worked out for Jean-Clair Todibo at Barcelona. But he has managed to turn things around since joining OGC Nice in the winter of 2021. It was an initial loan move which was made permanent in the summer of 2021.

Since making the move to France, the 24-year-old has featured in a total of 120 matches. He has become one of the mainstays of the team, and his impressive performances have also helped him make his way into the French national team.

Todibo has gone from strength to strength with every passing season and at this point in time, he is amongst the best defenders in Ligue 1. His consistent performances have attracted attention from clubs across Europe.

Todibo in Demand

Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 24-year-old. The Blues are preparing themselves for the possible departure of Thiago Silva in the summer. The 39-year-old centre-back has been the mainstay for the London club since joining them in the summer of 2020 after parting ways with PSG.

The Brazil international’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and he is unlikely to pen down a new deal. Silva has taken significant steps to become a coach. His absence will be a huge blow in terms of the amount of experience he brings to that dressing room.

Apart from Silva, they do not really have any experienced centre-backs in their ranks. As a result, their priority is to bring in someone who has some experience at the very top. Todibo is someone who has been at Barcelona. He has made quite a few appearances of Nice as well, which is why he seems to be a great option for the Blues.

The 24-year-old defender’s contract with the Ligue 1 club runs until the summer of 2027. With well over three years left on his deal, Nice will not let him leave unless an offer of around £50 million is put on the table.
