Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly “scouting” Atalanta enforcer Ederson ahead of a potential big-money move in the summer transfer window.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via GIVEMESPORT), Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Atalanta midfielder Ederson ahead of a potential move and that he could cost “big money” in the summer transfer window.

Romano told GMS: “I don’t see Atalanta selling their best players, so they will have to make some decisions or to sell for really big money. So we have to see what Tottenham will decide but for sure, they’re scouting the player, they’re following the player closely and he is a player they appreciate. So I will keep his name for the summer. But at the moment, there is not even a shortlist of players who are guaranteed targets for Tottenham. So I think around March, April, this will be more clear.”

It’s no secret that Spurs’ fringe midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had been made available for transfer, but while the likes of Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli all expressed an interest in the Dane, none made the move for the former Southampton enforcer.

By sticking with Spurs, the north London club failed to sign a new central midfielder to start the new year. The Lilywhites still wrapped up a fine window. Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin joined to bolster the attack and defence.

Talented Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall also joined on deadline day. Pape Sarr is back following his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Yves Bissouma won’t be absent for much longer. Factor in the availability of Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, and Hojbjerg, and the midfield is well stocked to see out the campaign.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s side are still likely to really make their move for another central midfielder at the end of the season, with stand-in Chelsea skipper Conor Gallagher dubbed their number one target. However, given his prominent role this season, the Blues’ will do all they can to rebuff any efforts to sell to a rival.

To that end, Spurs’ seem to have found their best alternative, but it could be an expensive deal. The South American is among Atalanta’s best-performing players this season, and, despite the fact that he is more defensive-minded, Ederson has still chipped in with six goals this season.

The Brazilian has drawn links with Newcastle United and Juventus as well, as he continues to impress at La Dea, and it seems as if the list of potential suitors is slowly rising. However, Atalanta were not interested in selling Ederson midway through the season, and they were prepared to refuse any offers for the player.

Transfermarkt currently values him at £23 million, although Atalanta would almost certainly demand more than that if it’s an English club bidding for his signature in the summer.
