Bryan Gil reportedly had plenty of interest over the January market, but the Spanish winger decided to stay put in North London.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has promised Bryan Gil more first-team opportunities to show his talents in the second half of the campaign after the attacker turned down multiple offers for his signature during the winter transfer window.

Bryan Gil and his Tottenham Travails

The 22-year-old winger joined Spurs in 2021 for a £21 million fee. But he has struggled to settle in North London and has been loaned back to Spanish clubs Valencia and Sevilla in 2022 and 2023.

Gil was also made available for transfer by the club this winter, but he decided to stay put at Tottenham and fight for his place. Gil had offers from his homeland, including Sevilla, and was also linked with moves to Brighton, Brentford, Lazio, and Fiorentina.

What Now?

Despite not having been given opportunities under prior regimes, Bryan Gil believes he can still make a positive impression in the second half of the season and establish himself in the Premier League. And Football Insider reports that Ange Postecoglou is willing to reward the 22-year-old’s hunger to succeed in North London by giving him more chances to showcase his talents.

Indeed, Gil came off the bench again as Tottenham drew 2-2 with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. That was his 11th appearance in all competitions this season. However, he has yet to score or assist.

His chances of regular minutes this season also suffered a blow after the club first signed James Maddison, Manor Solomon, and Brennan Johnson in the summer transfer window and then captured Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig in January.

Gil’s preferred role is cutting inside from the right flank. But he has Dejan Kulusevski and Johnson ahead of him for that role, although he can also play as No. 10, a position Maddison, when fit, has made his own.

While he resisted a move away this time out, Gil will need to look at a possible move away from Spurs on a permanent basis in the summer if he fails to make his mark. The winger is 22 years old now, and at this point in his career, at the very least, he needs to have a very good chance of playing week in and week out, which he is not currently getting at Tottenham.
