Reading are in talks with Arsenal to take their U-21 captain, Zane Monlouis, on loan until the end of the current season.

According to The Athletic, Zane Monlouis has engaged in talks with Reading over a loan move. Arsenal could sanction a temporary departure for the 20-year-old Arsenal whizkid, who also happens to be their Under-21 captain, in a bid to help him get a taste of senior football.

Zane Monloius is set to leave Arsenal

Arsenal have had a quiet transfer window by their standards. But that is mostly due to the FFP regulations that have curtailed their spending this month. Mikel Arteta had wanted to bring in notable stars but will now postpone any plans until the summer window.

Instead, Arsenal have seen a raft of departures from their youth sides, with their Under-21 captain Zane Monlouis the next potential player to leave. The 20-year-old Arsenal whizkid has engaged in talks with Reading over a loan spell.

Arsenal may not stand in his way and will instead encourage the move if they feel it benefits the player in his quest to get regular game time at senior level. The 20-year-old has not played a first-team game for the Gunners, but he could do so with the League One side in the coming period.

From the information so far, there does not seem to be a buy option of any sort, although considering Reading’s current position in League One, the player might not have opted for an option. For now, he might look forward to playing first-team football and returning to Arsenal in the hope of fighting for a first-team place.

The Arsenal youth team exodus

Arsenal have sanctioned a raft of departures from their youth sides, which has seen some of their promising youngsters leave. If Monlouis also departs, it could potentially be the fourth such exit in the space of a few days. Hertha Berlin signed Bradley Ibrahim on a long-term deal, while Charles Sagoe Jr. joined fellow Gooner Charlie Patino at Swansea on a loan deal.

Aston Villa have signed Lino Sousa on a long-term deal, with the young left-back joining Plymouth Argyle on loan for the remainder of the season. Overall, some moves may get a good reception, while others will be criticised, as the Arsenal fans highly rated the likes of Sousa and Ibrahim.
