Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 27-year-old Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester United are ready to pay €50 million for Denzel Dumfries. But it is unclear if the fee will be enough for the Red Devils to convince Serie A giants Inter Milan for a sale. It is highly unlikely that they will sanction the departure of a key defender midway through the campaign. So, any move will have to wait until the summer transfer window.

Will Denzel Dumfries Replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka?

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford, and they will need to replace him adequately. The 27-year-old Inter Milan defender could prove to be an upgrade on the former Crystal Palace star.

Dumfries is better than Wan-Bissaka going forward, and he will add a new dimension to their attack. Recent reports suggested that Inter Milan had made an offer over a swap deal involving Wan-Bissaka and Dumfries, which Manchester United shot down.

Premier League Calling?

A move to the Premier League will be an exciting adventure for the Dutch international defender, who should prove to be a good fit for Erik ten Hag’s attacking philosophy. The Dutch manager is keen on bringing his compatriot to Old Trafford, and Manchester United would do well to secure of his services.

The 27-year-old can operate as a right-back as well as a wing back. His versatility could make him a useful asset for the Red Devils. The defender has already shown his quality in Serie A, and he has won the league title with Inter Milan.

He might be open to a new challenge now, and the opportunity to compete for major trophies in the Premier League will be an attractive proposition. It would be the ideal next step in his career, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can get a deal done.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently having a mediocre campaign by their standards, and they will have to improve to finish the season strongly. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in the necessary additions before the winter window closes.

They must look to secure European qualification to attract top quality players in the summer. The Red Devils cannot hope to convince the top players to join them without the lure of European football next season.
